As we approach the new year, gyms across the world will soon be filled to the brim with resolutioners filled with motivation to change their lives. By the end of next month, they’ll become an endangered species, and most likely fall to extinction by March.
~
The momentary appearance of new trainees at the first of the year can be accredited to the equally temporary (almost festive) motivation of which they draw upon.
~
In short, this kind of motivation constantly fades and returns; it seems to undulate like the tides. It can work great occasionally, but we can’t consistently count on spurts of motivation to help get the job done. There are many days when I wake up not feeling motivated, yet I can always turn to discipline.
~
Discipline is exemplifying the will to get the job done by trusting the process and having faith that the reward will come in the long run. It usually doesn’t sell as well as motivation, but it always stands rock solid within the psyche.
~
I’m telling you that the motivation train at the start of the new year always gets derailed. When it does, you have the choice to play the victim or get back on track and know that your goals are ultimately what matter.
~
Results don’t happen from a single great workout, or even a few great workouts for that matter. Play the long game and build a collection of small victories from accumulating scores of productive training sessions.
~
Form habits, not hype. Take the disciplined road to results – there are no shortcuts.
