Welcome to Strength Scrolls. I’d like to take this first post to introduce myself and give a synopsis of what I’ll be writing about in this blog.
My name is Ethan Waltz. At the time of this post, I am 26 years old and living in Greenwood, Indiana with my lovely wife and (sometimes) lovely cats and dog. I am employed as a personal trainer and have been helping people reach their goals for nearly 7 years. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology from Hanover College and have been a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist for 4 years through the National Strength & Conditioning Association.
I’ve been training seriously, either for sports or personal goals, for 11 years now. After finishing football in college, I began training for powerlifting and have been competing in the sport for 3 years now. I compete in the 198/205 lb. classes and have best lifts of 485/290/580.
I decided to begin this blog (my first one admittedly – take it easy on me) for a couple of reasons; the first of which being purely selfish. Since completing school, I’ve routinely gone through phases where I’ve actually missed writing and felt like I needed some kind of outlet to get ideas out.
The second reason has to do with the ideas themselves. I’m a pretty humble guy, but I do pride myself in the amount of research I put in to the fields of strength & conditioning, nutrition, and fitness in general. I was never a particularly gifted athlete and have come quite a way since the first time I stepped in a weight room, namely because I immediately developed such a passion for training and have devoted so much time to soaking up everything about it.
In a more current scope, the entire field of exercise science is relatively young and constantly changing, which is why I’ve always felt the need to need to keep learning and discussing concepts and ideas. A former coach and mentor of mine once told me: “The day I become complacent and lose my desire to learn is the day I stop being an effective coach.” I’ve always stuck by that truth.
My goal is to use this blog as a medium to share this information to readers who have an interest in these subjects. I plan to write mainly about topics related to strength training, conditioning, body composition, nutrition, biomechanics, physiology, and any other aspect relating to exercise science or general fitness. However, I can’t promise that there won’t occasionally be posts about places to go, things to eat and drink, stuff to read or listen to, or anything else that I suggest people who care about themselves should be doing.
Thank you for reading; now hopefully I can start churning out some sexier content.
